Controlled demolition and reconstruction of a truck park area in Basel – a giant upcycling project

Precise Deconstruction for Sustainable Reuse
This project follows a special approach: The large ribbed slab elements of the parking garage, measuring approximately 10 to 11 meters in length and 1.25 to 1.5 meters in width, are carefully exposed and dismantled. These elements will be reused in future projects to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in new constructions. The deconstruction started in autumn 2024 and will continue well into 2025.
High-Precision Cuts with Tyrolit Technology
Interbohr AG, responsible for all drilling and sawing work, relies on Tyrolit's proven technology. Five powerful WSE1621 wall saws are being used to dismantle the parking garage piece by piece. To ensure the precise cuts required for reusing the elements, a three-stage cutting process is employed using Tyrolit diamond saw blades with diameters of 600, 800, and 1,200 mm.
Consideration for People and the Environment
As the construction site is located in a densely built-up area, special attention has been given to reducing noise pollution. The SILENT diamond saw blades from Tyrolit lower noise levels by up to 10 decibels—making the sound perceived by residents half as loud.
This innovative project demonstrates that sustainable construction and modern deconstruction can go hand in hand—with Tyrolit providing the perfect technology to make it happen.
